What if someone told you that you could have an unimaginable load of fun, make the world a better place, and push your own boundaries at the same time? What if someone told you that you could do your bit to shatter stereotype, change perspectives, and clarify misconceptions while breaking personal records and fostering new relationships? What if someone told you that all this and more can happen in less than two weeks this July?

Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF) is telling you just that.

From July 29th to August 24th 2017, twenty-four cyclists were on India’s first inclusive tandem cycling expedition, organised by Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF). They pedalled from Manali to Khardung La, arguably the world’s highest motorable road, accompanied by a support crew of thirty individuals including medical staff, photographers, and members of the ABBF team. The route spanned a distance of 550 kilometres and involved overcoming five mountain passes before finally reaching the destination, often on roads that were largely just stone and gravel. The expedition, which was conducted in two batches, saw the participation of blind, visually impaired, amputee, as well as able-bodied cyclists from countries including Slovakia, US and of course all over India.

For ten days, cyclists lived and experienced inclusion in its truest form. They danced together, sang together, pushed each other on, and celebrated each other’s successes. They formed a bond like nothing before and came back with fresh perspectives, renewed zest for life, and the unwavering commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

Today, it is with unshakable confidence that we count India’s first inclusive tandem cycling expedition a tremendous success. It changed perspectives, shattered stereotypes, and fostered relationships in the best way possible – through play.

ABBF and our cyclists are now committed to using this platform to further the cause of inclusion. Keep an eye on this space to watch how inclusive tandem cycling grows!

InSync #M2K2017 could not have been possible without the support of our sponsors Bajaj Finserv, Enable Travel, and Trip 360. Our design partners Out and Out Design as well as apparel partners Faire du velo made this journey what it was. Shout-out also to crowdera.com for hosting our crowdfunding campaign that was a tremendous success, and to all of you who contributed to making it one.
